My teaching area covers GIS and physical geography. I teach both computer lab sessions and field studies. I have a keen interest in promoting GIS education in NUS. After I joined NUS, I received the Educational Initiative Fund to establish and develop the Minor Programme in GIS for undergraduate students. Jointly with colleagues, we further proposed the single-degree coursework programme, Master of Science in Applied GIS, to offer graduate students to study the cutting-edge technologies and latest developments in GIS and its applications. To promote GIS for social science applications, I have also worked with colleagues to secure a Strategic Initiative fund on Developing and Maintaining a State-of-the-art Earth Systems Science Research and Teaching Laboratory Infrastructure in Geography. One of the important outputs of the Strategic Initiative is the development of the Historical Maps of Singapore portal, now housed in NUS Libraries.
