She obtained her professional training as a clinical psychologist through the Master of Psychology (Clinical) course at the National University of Singapore.
Hwan Cui has published research relating to autism and screening for developmental problems in young children. Currently, she leads the Timely Identification of Developmental and Behaviour problems in Toddlers (TIDBIT) project, which aims to evaluate the usefulness of the Health Booklet checklists and other overseas-developed developmental screening tools for detecting developmental problems in toddlers.
