BIO
My main research interests focus on: (i) Understanding the neurochemistry and biological mechanisms underlying various subtypes of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, Vascular Cognitive Impairment, and Lewy Body Dementia, and (ii) Discovering novel fluid-based biomarkers for cognitive impairment and dementia with potential clinical utility. I completed my PhD in Pharmacology at the National University of Singapore in 2020, where I investigated novel blood-based biomarkers for cognitive impairment and dementia. Subsequently, I worked as a Doctorate Apprentice and now hold the position of Research Fellow at the same university. As a Team Lead of the neurochemistry research team at the National University Health System (NUHS) Memory, Ageing, Cognition Centre (MACC), I oversee various human postmortem studies, working on studying underlying pathophysiological processes in different dementia subtypes. Besides, I also possess extensive experience in various biomarker discovery platforms and data analytic approaches crucial for clinical biomarker discovery and development. During my post-doctorate traineeship, I also acquired valuable skills in establishing animal models of cognitive impairment and cerebrovascular disease, which complement my research in human studies. My interdisciplinary training has allowed me to appreciate various aspects of dementia, including pathophysiology, neurochemistry, therapeutic targets, and clinical biomarkers.
