RESEARCH INTERESTS
Cognitive impairment and dementia have been shown to have heterogenous aetiologies, requiring investigation in a wide range of pathophysiological mechanisms and pathways. Our lab thus adopts an inter-disciplinary approach covering post-mortem, clinical, in-vitro and animal-based studies to address clinically important questions. My research contributions include:
(1) Investigation and discovery of cardiovascular disease-related markers and neuroinflammation-related markers as potential clinical biomarkers for cognitive impairment and dementia with comorbid cerebrovascular disease;
(2) Investigation of the neurochemistry and neuropathology of neurodegenerative dementias, particularly in relevance to neuroinflammation, lysosomal pathway and mitochondrial transportation system;
(3) Inter-disciplinary collaborations integrating clinical (using patient cohort) and pre-clinical (using animal model) data to provide deeper understanding on extracellular matrix markers in vascular dementia and the putative underlying pathopysiology involved.
