My passion is in teaching, mentoring and coaching. I teach through deliberate emphasis on clinical reasoning to enable deep learning. I believe in life-long learning. As such, I completed my Masters of Health Professions Education (MHPE-S) offered by Maastricht University, Netherlands and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, in 2017, the Newfield Ontological Coaching programme in 2021 as well as the Newfield Team Coaching programme in Jan 2022. So far I have clocked over 100 coaching hours. I have also received certification in using the Personal Profile Analysis (DISC) and the Trait Emetional Intelligence Qestionnaire.

I have won multiple teaching and mentoring awards, the two most prestigious being the 2013 National Outstanding Clinician Educator award for my “outstanding and immense contribution in nurturing and shaping future medical leaders, and the development of the field of Emergency Medicine education in Singapore”, and the 2019 ACGME-I Physician Leader award for "extraordinary contributions to graduate medical education". I am a much sought-after speaker at many local and international conferences, especially in systematic teaching of ECG reading and chest pain evaluation. I have been involved in teaching Evidence-based Medicine since 1997. I teach a wide range of learners, ranging from medical and nursing students, residents to adult learners. In addition, I have been regularly invited to teach x-ray interpretation to Nanyang Polytechnic advanced diploma in nursing students.

I have wide experience serving in numerous national and international educational and training committees. Currently, I am the Associate Dean / Medical Clinical Education Lead at the National University Hospital. I am also a member of the Emergency Medicine national examination committee and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-International(ACGME-I) review committee. I was the inagural Designated Institutional Official of the National University Health System residency programme (2009-2020), chair of the Emergency Medicine Specialist Training Committee (2009-2011), and member of the Singapore Specialist Accreditation Board (2010-2020). I was an Adjunct Professor to the University Kebangsaan Malaysia Department of Emergency Medicine (2007-2013). I have also been invited as an external examiner of the Master for Emergency Medicine in Malaysia multiple times.

I have written 4 books. I am the Chief Editor of the "Guide to the Essentials in Emergency Medicine, 1st, 2nd and 3rd editions", and co-author of the “Medicolegal Issues in Emergency Medicine and Family Practice: Case Scenarios”. The 1st edition of the Emergency Medicine book was publsihed in 2004, was re-printed 9 times and had sold 16,000 copies internationally. The 2nd ed was publised in 2014 had had sold over 11,000 copies. The 3d edition has just been published by Mc-Graw-hill in Feb 2022.
