Dr Lingli Huang received her doctoral degree in Sociology from the Johns Hopkins University in the United States of America. Before joining NUS, Dr Huang had worked as a postdoctoral research fellow and lecturer at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Her areas of research interests and expertise include food politics, water governance, environmental sustainability, ageing, social policy, migration, and multiculturalism. With a background in macro-sociology and having experiences conducting empirical research on social issues in Singapore and China, Dr Huang is keen on employing a structure-agency approach to examine and understand complex interplays between global forces and local actors.

Dr Huang has published in academic journals including Geoforum, Studies in Comparative International Development, Asian and Pacific Migration Journal, Journal of Chinese Overseas. She is a co-editor of Political, Economic and Social Dimensions of Labour Markets: A Global Insight (World Scientific, 2022), and a contributor to Encyclopaedia of Gerontology and Population Aging (Springer, 2020).

As an instructor, she has taught courses on Food Politics, Ageing and Globalization, Population and Development, and Intro-level Statistics, among others. She brings a multidisciplinary perspective to her teaching, drawing on sociology, anthropology, environmental studies, and public policy to provide a holistic understanding of the complex social world. Dr Huang is a passionate teacher, and she takes a great responsibility in teaching and considers sharing knowledge and experience with students a tremendous privilege.
