Dr. Chao Han (韩潮) is Associate Professor (Dean’s Chair) in the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He concurrently serves as Assistant Dean (Research) of FASS. He is also a member of the Centre for Computational Social Science and Humanities at FASS and the NUS Artificial Intelligence Institute.

Dr. Han is an interdisciplinary-minded applied linguist whose research lies at the dynamic intersection of Translation Studies, Language Assessment, and Natural Language Processing. By integrating psychometric modeling (e.g., many-facet Rasch measurement), cognitive process tracing (e.g., eye tracking), and computational techniques (e.g., automated evaluation metrics, machine learning), he has conducted innovative research on both manual and automated evaluation of human- and machine-generated translation and interpreting (T&I) (see e.g., Han, 2020, 2021; Han & Lu, 2021, 2023, 2025;  Han et al., 2024; Han et al., 2025; Han et al., 2026). Over the years, he has developed a robust and programmatic research agenda, termed Quality Assessment in Multilingual, Multimodal, and Multiagent Translation and Interpreting (QAM³T&I, see Han, 2025). This framework aims to advance evaluation methodologies across languages, communication modes, and agent types, contributing to enhanced evaluation practices in the contexts of T&I training, professional certification, language learning, and languag services industry. Dr. Han currently serves as an Associate Editor for Language Testing in Asia (Springer Nature) and sits on the Editorial/Advisory Board of Language Testing (Sage) and Interpreting: International Journal of Research and Practice in Interpreting (John Benjamins).
