Dr. Rosita Samsudin is a Lecturer at NUS Cities, College of Design and Engineering. Her research sits at the intersection of urban ecology, architecture/ urban design, public health, and social science, investigating how the provision and design of the natural environment, particularly in urban areas, can foster social capital and health and well-being, in a broader context. She brings a distinctive blend of design expertise and rigorous social-environmental research. Her work bridges quantitative and qualitative methods to generate actionable evidence for urban designers/ planners and policymakers.

She has built a track record of internationally funded and cross-institutional research. She currently leads a Ministry of Education Tier 1 project examining how perceptions and affordances shape the use of nature for health benefits, and co-leads a Kajima Foundation project with collaborators in Japan on urban greening design for biodiversity and people. She is also a collaborator on a National Research Foundation project on biophilic benchmarking for landscape design in Singapore. Her earlier work at The University of Tokyo (2022–2024) focused on neighbourhood green space and social capital in Tokyo, funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

She has partnered with researchers and institutions in Singapore, Japan, and Italy. She has contributed to multi-stakeholder projects with the Singapore ETH Centre in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank and several city agencies in Indonesia (Bandung, Semarang, Palembang, and Makassar). She currently co-leads the Landscape and Human Health Working Group within the Association for Pacific Rim Universities' Sustainable Cities and Landscapes. Her work has been published in leading journals including Environment and Behavior, Landscape and Urban Planning, and Urban Forestry & Urban Greening. She is particularly interested in forging new partnerships around ecological-based approaches for healthy and socially connected cities. She has worked at The University of Tokyo, Future Cities Laboratory (Singapore ETH Centre), as well as practised architecture in Singapore and Indonesia.
