Zdravko Trivic is a teacher and a researcher under the Urbanism Research Cluster, with active involvement as Principal Investigator and Committee Member at CARE (Center for Ageing Research in the Environment), CSAC (Centre for Sustainable Asian Cities), DRIA (Designing Resilience in Asia), SDE, NUS, and SEC FCL and FCL Global, ETH Zurich/Singapore. His research is focused on multi-sensorial and perception-driven approaches to urban design and neighbourhood planning, with specific focus on design for well-being, ageing-friendly and health-supportive environments, urban spaces in high-density environments, arts and public space, placemaking and participatory design.
His key research projects include:
- Co-Lead PI (2022-2025): "Architectural Cognition in Practice: Assessing and Designing for User Experience", Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) Global & National Research Foundation (NRF), (with Prof Christoph Hölscher, SEC/ETH Zurich; collaboration between ETH, FCL, NUS & SUTD).
- PI (2021-2023): "Enhancing cognitive reserve in the community: Exploring the effects of Sensory Environment and Playfulness on Depression and Cognition (SEPDC) among older adults", National Innovation Challenge (NIC) Healthy Longevity Catalyst Award 2021 (international competitive grant) - National Academy of Medicine (NAM), USA, National Research Foundation (NRF)/Ministry of Health (MOH), (collaboration with Simon Fraser University, Berea College, Wayne State University & Arizona State University).
- Co-PI (2021-2023): "A Participatory Translational Study to Foster Positive Community Behaviour", Social Science and Humanities Research (SSHR) Grant, Ministry of Education (MOE), (PI: Cho Im Sik, NUS).

- PI (2016-2018): “Arts and Culture Nodes in the Heartlands of Singapore: Exploring Spatial Opportunities and Impacts”, in collaboration with NAC (National Arts Council), Singapore. Grant received: S$ 428,000.00
- Research Fellow (2014-2015): “Study on the Application of Design Recommendations to Foster Community Bonding”, in collaboration with HDB (Housing Development Board), Singapore
- Research Fellow (2011-2013): “Urban Space Planning for Sustainable High Density Environments”, in collaboration with URA, HDB & NParks (National Parks), Singapore
His research has been published in several books, book chapters, international journal articles and conference proceedings. He received 2 outstanding paper awards at the UIA 2017 Seoul World Architects Congress.
His design works have been exhibited internationally, including Venice Biennale, Italy (2006), World Congress of Architecture, Istanbul, Turkey (2005), Moscow, Russia and Belgrade, Serbia (2005).
He was also a Member of WELL concept Advisory Board (2018-2019), for the International WELL Building Institute - IWBI, New York, USA.
