RESEARCH INTERESTS
Since Assistant Professor position (AY2015/16), I am positioning my independent research in the discourse of Multi-Sensorial Urbanism, with specific focus on Health-Supportive and Ageing-friendly Urban Space and Neighbourhood Design, building upon my PhD research. Additional strong areas of interest (developed during my postdoc) involve quality of urban spaces in high-density environments, arts and public space and community participation, which are complementary to a wider social well-being discourse. My objective is to integrate my research into teaching, which involves: developing and enriching teaching material, equipping students to do design by research & research by design, using class environment as pilot research platform (e.g., AR5952f City & Senses) and providing students with research experience as vehicle for their design and personal growth (RAs).
My field of research is interdisciplinary, bordering with ethnography, anthropology, phenomenology, environmental psychology and human geography. While sensory studies experienced significant revival in social sciences and marketing research in the past two decades, they have been largely neglected in architectural and urban design discourses, especially in reference to ageing population, high-density and high-intensity urban environment and new technologies.
