BIO
Pieter Herthogs is Assistant Professor in computational design at the Department of Architecture, College of Design and Engineering, National University of Singapore.

Prof. Herthogs heads the Reasonable Design Lab, developing Reasonable design approaches that make the intangible tangible.
Reasonable designs are transparent, explainable, actionable, and fit for purpose. They support meaningful communication, interoperability between users and their methods, reasoning, and multi-perspective decision-making.
Our approaches combine formal knowledge models with reasonable recommendation systems to create tangible tools and demonstrators . Hybrid AI workflows and agents help us to achieve the Lab's central mission: replacing ourselves.
The Reasonable Design Lab can help you:
- Develop computational approaches that bridge between disciplines and domains.
- Explore how models of human and machine knowledge can help us navigate complex design processes.
- Make sense of the multiplicity of goals, performances, and meanings that shape good fit.
We currently focus on four thematic pillars, at a range of design scales:
- Urban Morphology & Meaning
- Built Environment & Health
- Regenerative Urban Systems
- Measurable Regulations & Scenarios
The Reasonable Design Lab brings together researchers working at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and researchers working at the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC).

Dr Herthogs holds a Doctorate in Engineering and a Master and Bachelor degree in Architectural Engineering from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium). He is a Fellow of the Singapore-ETH Centre.
