Hemant Kakkar is Dean's Chair and Associate Professor of Management and Organisation at the NUS Business School. His research examines the psychological and behavioral consequences of influence strategies used by individuals and leaders. A central theme in his work is how people gain, maintain, and lose influence in groups and organizations, and how these dynamics shape cooperation, unethical behavior, punishment, and deviance. He also studies misinformation, including why people share fake news and how social and political factors shape such behavior.

His research has been published in leading journals across management and psychology, including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Psychological Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Nature Human Behaviour, Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, and Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.
His work has also been featured in outlets such as Harvard Business Review, Scientific American, Politico, The Atlantic, BBC, Bloomberg, CNBC, Forbes India, The Guardian, and other international media.

Professor Kakkar received his PhD in Organisational Behaviour from London Business School, his MBA from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, and his B.Tech. in Biotechnology from VIT University. Before joining NUS, he was a faculty member at the Indian School of Business and Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He has received several awards and recognitions for his research and teaching, including the Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Outstanding Dissertation Award, the International Association for Conflict Management Outstanding Dissertation Award, best paper awards from the Academy of Management and IACM, and an Excellence in Teaching Award from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
