RESEARCH INTERESTS
The burgeoning urban landscapes of Asia present a unique amalgam of challenges and opportunities, where the delicate balance between rapid economic growth and environmental sustainability is most pronounced. In emerging economies in Asia, the interplay of environmental factors with economic vitality is not just an academic inquiry but a pressing real-world issue. The overarching theme of the research agenda centers on the economic and environmental dynamics in urban settings, with a particular focus in Asia, such as Singapore and China.
Through a systematic analysis of environment, transportation networks and real estate market, my research endeavors to provide evidence-based recommendations for sustainable urban solutions. It highlights how air pollution, climate change, and resource consumption directly influence aspects such as transportation, real estate, and the labour market, thereby affecting the very fabric of urban living. The ultimate aim is to enable cities in Asia to forge a path towards a future where economic advancements are achieved with ecological foresight and the well-being of the population at the forefront.
I have been working in this research area since my pre-tenure period, which covers three sub-areas: 1) the economic impact of transportation networks; 2) the policies and market participants’ behaviors in housing and land market; and 3) the social and economic consequences of air pollution and climate change. In my post-tenure period (from 2021 onward), I still keep working on these three sub-areas but ask broader research questions related to the interplay between environment and transportation, and environment and real estate.
