TEACHING INTERESTS

As an educator, I strive to identify the best teaching practices I have experienced as a student and learn through feedback from my students. I first identify the key learning outcomes before designing tasks and engagement strategies to achieve them. This process is iterative as I strive to improve my courses while adapting with changing needs of our students and industry. My main objectives as an educator are to (1) develop students’ intrinsic motivation to learn, (2) equip students with skills for self-directed learning, and (3) preparing students for the workforce.

My teaching philosophy shapes the teaching outcomes I hope to achieve. The keywords from my teaching philosophy are ‘Play’, ‘Purpose’ and ‘Prepare’. The first two ‘P’s are inspired by concepts from Tony Wagner in his bestseller book ‘Creating Innovators’ and the last ‘P’ is informed by my engineering practice and the need to transform our engineering education.
