James is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School. He was a Senior Advisor at Morgan Stanley Investment in 2013 and, prior to his retirement, served as CEO and lead portfolio manager for Asian Equity strategies at Morgan Stanley Investment Management Singapore. He re-joined Morgan Stanley in 2006 and has more than 30 years of investment experience. Before re-joining the firm, James was the Chief Investment Officer for Asia at Invesco Asia Fund Management in Hong Kong. Prior to that, he co-founded and was a portfolio manager at Asia Strategic Investment Management, a boutique asset management firm investing in Asian markets. Before this, James was a portfolio manager for Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s Asian Equity team.

He received a Bachelor of Social Science in Economics from the University of Hong Kong and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. James is a member of the Investment Advisory Committee for the University of Michigan Endowment Fund. He was a Founding Director at Caring For Life, a Singapore-based mental health NGO, and a Senior Advisor to the Centre for Asset Management Research & Investments (CAMRI), a research facility of the National University of Singapore.
