I'm an anthropologist by training, with a background in philosophy and cultural studies. For the past 20 years, my research has focused on cultural production in the Middle East, with a particular emphasis on contemporary art practices in Palestine/Israel. More recently, my research has turned to practice-based research among contemporary art practitioners in Indonesia. In this research, I'm looking at how artists understand their research practice and how that manifests itself in their work around an “unfinished history” in Indonesia. At the same time, I’m working on a book manuscript on the affinities between ethnographic and archival practices in anthropology and art.  

For IEx, I'm excited to work with students in Bandung and Yogyakarta on a variety of art- and design-related projects who want to explore how artists and designers work with communities to address a variety of social issues.
